Resign, say the people

Independent Nelson MLA Gerry Wood has vowed to keep applying pressure to the Northern Territory Government to pull back from its plans to reform local government in the Litchfield Shire.

“The government’s agenda is bad and undemocratic governance,” he said. “What it plans for the Litchfield Shire should make your hair stand on end.”

More than 250 people who attended a meeting at Girraween Primary School last week condemned the government’s proposed business plan for the new super shire.

School bus too crowded

school bus too crowdedCLP Opposition Leader Terry Mills is outraged that school children have been ordered off school buses because of overcrowding.

He said at least five children were left at the Palmerston bus exchange on one day last week as a consequence of overcrowding on the Palmerston to Marrara Christian School bus run.

“The parents I have spoken to about this matter are absolutely furious about their children being ordered off the school bus,” he said.

“Had those parents not waited for the bus to depart, those children would have been left to find their own way to school.

Memory loss during pregnancy

memory loss during pregnancyMany women believe that they become more forgetful during pregnancy, and a new study by Australian researchers suggests that they are right - and that their memory can be significantly impaired for at least a year after giving birth.

Only some aspects of memory are affected, especially those of an unfamiliar or demanding kind, and the level of impairment is not large.

"But the memory deficits many women experience during and after pregnancy are pretty much like the modest deficits you'd find when comparing healthy 20-year-olds with healthy 60-year-olds," says Dr Julie Henry, a psychology researcher at the University of New South Wales, who conducted the study with Associate Professor Peter Rendell, of the Australian Catholic University.
